This special necklace features an original 1900  British penny with sterling silver heart and keshi pearl charms on a sterling silver ball chain.

The penny has always played an important part in British history and existed as long ago as Anglo-Saxon times when it was made of silver. In 1797, the silver in the penny was changed to copper and in 1860, the copper was replaced by bronze. The 1900 penny features a portrait of Queen Victoria on one side and an image of Britannia on the other side. Britannia is a female figure who personifies Britain. She first appeared on ancient Roman coins and was at one point in time considered to be a goddess.

The coin measures 3cm and the chain measures 70cm. 

Gold fill has the same desirable properties and look of solid gold. It won’t tarnish and will not rub off. If treated with care gold filled jewellery can be worn daily without fear of fading or rubbing off.
