Vintage silver Stokes watch fob medallion earrings on sterling silver hoops and with freshwater pearls and gold fill beads.
Stokes was established in 1856 by an Englishman, Thomas Stokes who had arrived in Australia to take part in the Gold Rush. Stokes had done his apprenticeship in Birmingham and merged with GF Martin 1867. By 1911 Thomas Stokes and his 3 sons had split from Martin and established Stokes & Sons. Over the years Stokes have minted medals for most of special occasions in history including queen Victoria's Silver Jubilee, the Boer War and The Federation of Australia. They were also asked to commission Queen Elizabeth 2nd's wedding present from Australia and her gift from Victoria during the 1954 tour. Stokes is still operating today.
A fob is an adornment or a seal that hung from the ribbon or chain of a Gentleman's pocket watch. Its purpose was to decorate or add weight to the watch chain. Watch fob pendants were often given as prizes or to commemorate a special occasion or event.
The fob measures 2.2cm x 2cm. The total length of the earrings is 6cm.
