SOLD Edwardian 9ct Gold Luck Wishbone And Amethyst Bar Brooch

This product is sold out

This stunning 9ct gold and amethyst brooch is a beautiful example of an Edwardian  brooch. It is in excellent condition with very little wear and tear and measures 4cm.

Like the horseshoe, the wishbone is a symbol of good luck, good wishes, and hope. During the 19th century, wishbone charms were often given out at weddings (along with other symbols of good luck) to wish the new couple luck in their marriage.

The Edwardian era also known as 'La Belle Epoque' was a time of frivolity and wealth for the Upper Classes mainly because of the fun loving and 'playboy' King Edward VII. Jeweller's responded to these flamboyant times with beautiful delicate jewellery often featuring circle, floral and bow motifs. Brooches were extremely popular and were often placed on ribbon around the wearer's neck to create a colliers de chien or ‘dog collar’.
