The Edwardian era also known as 'La Belle Epoque' was a time of frivolity and wealth for the Upper Classes mainly because of the fun loving and 'playboy' King Edward VII. Jeweller's responded to these flamboyant times with beautiful delicate jewellery often featuring circle, floral and bow motifs associated with Art Nouveau. Brooches were extremely popular and were often placed on ribbon around the wearer's neck to create a colliers de chien or ‘dog collar’.
This pretty 9ct gold lined and stone (unknown) brooch is a beautiful example of the motifs of the era. The pin is sadly no longer attached but we have given it new life as a beautiful pendant on a delicate gold fill chain.
The brooch pendant measures 3cm x 2cm and the chain measures 42cm.
Gold fill has the same desirable properties and look of solid gold. It won’t tarnish and will not rub off. If treated with care gold filled jewellery can be worn daily without fear of fading or rubbing off.
