Sterling silver double heart mizpah brooch dated 1923 Chester and with the makers mark W&Ss. The brooch features the word Mizpah on one side with floral decoration and the words 'The Lord watch between me & thee when we are absent one from another' on the other.

Mizpah is a Hebrew word that means 'watchtower' and is loosely interpreted as 'May God watch over you' and is often found on antique jewellery. It was worn as a token of love or friendship and became popular during the Victorian era with an emotive story behind it. Today Mizpah jewellery is given to loved ones as a reminder that they are loved always, no matter where they are, apart or together.

It measures 3cm in length.
