The Edwardian era also known as 'La Belle Epoque' was a time of frivolity and wealth for the Upper Classes mainly because of the fun loving and 'playboy' King Edward VII. Jeweller's responded to these flamboyant times with beautiful delicate jewellery often featuring circle, floral and bow motifs. Brooches were extremely popular and were often placed on ribbon around the wearer's neck to create a colliers de chien or ‘dog collar’. Pearls were also very popular in the Edwardian era and were seen as more valuable than diamonds.
This stunning 9ct gold and garnet doublet brooch is a beautiful example of an Edwardian brooch. It features an oval cut garnet, faux pearls with fleur de lis ends and a safety chain. It is in great condition with very little wear and tear.
It measures 5.5cm.
