Antique 1909 British Threepence Love Token Necklace

This beautiful necklace features a 1909  silver British threepence with inset crystal, dyed ruby heart and pearl on a gold fill bead chain.

The British threepence was know as a threepence or threepenny bit and was first used in England during the reign of Edward VI (1547-53). All threepences minted from 1816 to 1919 were made of sterling silver and those produced between 1920 and 1946 were half silver, half nickel. Gems were often added to these coins and given as love tokens. 

The coin measures 1.5cm and the chain measures 46cm. 

Gold fill has the same desirable properties and look of solid gold. It won’t tarnish and will not rub off. If treated with care gold filled jewellery can be worn daily without fear of fading or rubbing off.
