Antique 1838 Tuppence Necklace
This product is sold out
This beautiful necklace features a rare 1838 Queen Victoria tuppence on a gold fill chain.
The two pence or 2d coin were largely silver coins especially minted for distribution to the poor by the British sovereign on Maundy Thursday. However in 1838 and 1848 the 2d Maundy design was used as a test coin which was only circulated in the British Colonies. They were only issued in these 2 years as they did not prove popular.
The coin is 1cm in diameter and the chain measures 46cm.
Gold fill has the same desirable properties and look of solid gold. It won’t tarnish and will not rub off. If treated with care gold filled jewellery can be worn daily without fear of fading or rubbing off.
