Stunning Edwardian sterling silver sovereign holder on a sterling silver chain and with a large clasp. The case is hallmarked Birmingham 1900. This is a gorgeous piece of history and is in excellent condition with initials FD in very ornate script on the front.

sovereign case is used for carrying either full or half gold sovereign coins and often worn on a gentleman's Albert/watch chain and kept in a waistcoat pocket. The coins would be stacked tightly together by a spring action mechanism; a case usually holds about 4 or 5 sovereigns.

The sovereign case measures 5cm x 4.5cm (including the bail). The total length of the chain including the clasp is 45cm.
