This beautiful necklace features a 1900 British shilling, garnet heart, gold fill highlights and pink pearl on a sterling silver chain with a fob clasp. This necklace is reminiscent of the watch chains from which pocket watches hung.
The shilling was worth 12 pence and was first minted in the reign of Henry VII and became known as the shilling from the old English word scilling sometime in the mid-16th century, circulating until 1990. The word bob was sometimes used for a monetary value of several shillings, e.g. "ten-bob note".
The necklace measures 78cm in total including the coin drop. The coin measures 2.4cm.
